Discover the Art of Blacksmithing at Poplar Grove Plantation
If you’ve ever been fascinated by the age-old craft of blacksmithing, Poplar Grove Plantation offers a unique experience that you won’t want to miss. Nestled in a historic setting, the plantation provides a four-hour class where you can learn the ins and outs of metalworking using a traditional coal-fired forge and bellows. The best part? You don’t need any prior experience to join in on the fun!
The class covers seven to ten basic metalworking techniques, and by the end of it, you’ll walk away with a finished product that you’ve crafted yourself. Whether it’s a fire poker, S-hook, J-hook, dinner bell, or a candle holder, the choice is yours. The class is open to anyone 18 years and older, and it costs $175 per person. Payment in full is required to reserve your spot, and classes are taught on a monthly basis.
Worried about the class size? Fear not! The class accommodates up to four people, ensuring that you get personalized attention. If you have a larger group, they can make arrangements for that as well, although the class duration will be extended.
What’s more, once you’ve completed the initial class, you can return for studio time to work on any project of your choosing, with a skilled smith available for assistance. This makes it a great option for those looking to delve deeper into the craft.
For parents with children under 18, while the kids can’t participate in the actual forging, they are welcome to attend for educational purposes at no extra charge. And if you’re looking for a unique gift idea, gift certificates are available upon request.
So, if you’re looking to try your hand at blacksmithing, or perhaps you’re searching for an extraordinary gift for someone special, Poplar Grove Plantation’s blacksmithing classes are a fantastic option.
